After some research, we found that:
- Decomposing food produces methane, a greenhouse gas more potent than Co2.
- 931 million tons of waste come from households, retail establishments and the food industry each year.
- 570 million tons comes from households.
- 60% of food waste is the responsibility of consumers.
- According to REFED, educating consumers about food waste could prevent 2.3 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
- 74kg is the global average of food waste, per capita.
- 1/3 of all food produced in the world is wasted, enough to feed all the world's undernourished people several times over.
